The Pond and Wildlife
The 960sqft pond located in the center of the farm is one of the last sources of water for wildlife in the area due to the years of drought that El Paso and the Southwest region has endured. Many different kinds of birds naturally flock to the La Mariposa’s pond to use it as a breeding ground in the summer or refuge in the winter months. The area is secure from predators and motor traffic making it an ideal place for these wild birds. The Chihuahuan Desert Wild Life Rescue has used the site for release once their birds are ready to transition back into the wild. Among the many visitors to the pond are Great Blue Herons, Wood Ducks, Cattle Egrets as well as many, many more. The pond is stocked with Catfish, bluegill and other fish providing many of the birds with food.
